Posted - 16/07/2011 : 09:33:04 I think my thermostat has just blown up it will be a few days before i can get another. I have a wooden viv, i have taken the heat mat out and put it under the viv, so it will be providing some heat but Kaa wont burn himself? is this acceptable as a temporary solution? |

Posted - 16/07/2011 : 09:44:47 I'd just turn the mat off until you get a new stat. just dont feed until your mat and stat are back up and running. They will be fine for a few days without it if they arent digesting. Unless your local to Braintree, essex cos i have a brand new spare stat i could sell you. |

Posted - 16/07/2011 : 09:39:43 when you say blown up, what do you mean? putting it under the viv is a waste of time, wood is an insulator. If you mean it has gone really really hot, and you havent got it on a stat, then putting it under the viv is the worst thing you can do.
True story for you:
A friend of mine is in a shop, over hears a woman there picking up her snake that had been there for 3 months or so, turns out she had a heatmat under her viv without a stat, heat mat failed. One house fire later and tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage, she bought a stat!
Moral is, 30 quid for a stat is pennies compared to the damage a faulty mat can do, on top of that, she was lucky no one was killed, and you cant put a price on that. |
