Hi all,
Maybe you'd all be interested in how I found my hatchling in his large viv.
I put Rummy straight into his 4x2ft viv after I picked him up and then left him a week in there. He's 12 weeks old now and has explored every single hide in the viv, not proven difficult to find (phew). He's eaten twice with no encouragement (pooped two days afterwards each time) and has shedded. He's also very confident with being handled now.
Took him for a health check at the **** Vet today and the vet said that him being in such a large viv for his size is what they would recommend and he looks very healthy and inquisitive. But obviously to have plenty of bolt holes for the snake. |

I'd definitely recommend the paper binder, or at least folded piece of cardboard. You'd be surprised how much they can flatten themselves, especially hatchlings. I have a 2 year old, over 3 foot snake, and I saw him trying to force himself between the two panes of glass. I was shocked to see how far he actually got, he could flatten his head completely - and the two panes are pretty tight.
It'd be a shame if your hatchie got out, especially as he seems so settled with you already...

Paper binder sounds like a good idea :) .
He's just nommed up his mouse, pretty happy even after the vets yesterday. |

You'd be surprised how big snakes can get yet still be able to squeeze through thte doors! I use a paper binder on the inside glass door edge to make the gap as small as possible, then only cost about 20p from a stationers :) Sounds like he is settling in nicely :) |

The gap between the glass doors is really small, I did stick some tissue in for a little bit but he's too busy exploring the hides. Plus, I think he doesn't quite know that the glass means out yet :) . |

Interesting! I'm currently debating whether to move up my younger snake to her big girl viv.
Has he attempted to escape through the glass doors at the front? That's the only thing stopping me so far - the worry of her escaping!!
Also glad to hear he's doing so well  |
