Posted - 19/07/2011 : 21:18:09 Hi Guys
I have just got my first Corn Snake (a swap for 5 Tarantulas with Little Fish Aquatics in Taunton). I don’t know a massive amount snakes, but I’ve been reading this forum for a couple of weeks, and apart from a couple of ‘accidents’ (once on the sofa and once on the carpet) I think we’re getting on pretty well. One question I need an answer to is, the snake I have is a fully grown female who seems to be happy without a hide, the guys I got her from said she didn’t need one, and she is quite large, so what would you suggest?
Hope to meet you all and I’m sure I’ll learn of new things about my snake.
Regards Alex.

Posted - 30/07/2011 : 14:40:36 hi, no matter what the people told you at the place where you got your snake from, your snake will need a place too hide just for it to feel safe from and when you feed it thats when it will need a place to hide because if it gets scared it could regurgitate it's food, hope i helped :) |

Posted - 21/07/2011 : 12:07:18 Hi and welcome. Swapping some tarantulas for a corn seems like a great move (I'm scared of spids lol!) |

Posted - 20/07/2011 : 22:14:03 Hi and welcome and to be honest the expensive pet shop hides only cost about £15 (well mine did) so not too painful. On the other hand like said before ice-cream tubs and cereal boxes. Looking forward to the pics !!!!

Posted - 20/07/2011 : 21:23:48 :) Hello and welcome to the forum! I don;t think you'll find a better place for corn snake information than here, quite honestly! It's certainly taught a first time owner like myself not to panic about the smallest things! Looking forward to pictures of your lovely girly! |

Posted - 20/07/2011 : 21:20:05 Thanks for the warm welcome. I'll try out a few different types, large plant pots or box's but may go for a proper one if she really takes to it. I'll try and get a photo up soon.

Posted - 20/07/2011 : 07:53:23 Hi and welcome. As already stated above hides are essential for your corn snake. They need somewhere quiet to digest food for a start (amoungst other good reasons to have hides), and so their hides are perfect for this. |

Posted - 20/07/2011 : 00:05:00 Hi, welcome to the forum.
A couple if hides, one in the warm end and another in the cool end, are really essential.
As others have said, you don't need to but an expensive hide from the pet shop, you can recycle cereal boxes, shoe boxes, ice cream tubs, etc. They work just as well and the snake won't care what they look like. |

Posted - 19/07/2011 : 23:02:06 Try a cereal box with a hole cut out as a hide - my Goonie seems to enjoy hers!

Posted - 19/07/2011 : 21:21:34 Hides are important for them. It will give her somewhere to sit all nice and curled up, away from any 'predators'. The hides could be something as simple as a plant pot base turned upside down with a hole cut in the side, or a proper purpose made hide. Anything they can get into and squeeze up with a small way in/out will be perfect. |
