Hi everyone I've been getting some great information from the posts on this site for my 10 yr old daughter as she wanted a corn snake. After a lot of reading, visiting pet shops etc I took her to see a couple of yearlings from a private seller at the weekend..We now have Voldemort (really wish she'd pick a better name!) an 11 month old anery male. He's very sweet, and she loved holding him at the buyers. She's now getting rather impatient as I'm making her wait a week for him to settle in before she can get him out to hold.
He does seem to spend all day hiding behind the polystyrene background (he's in an exo tera terrarium)and is only out late in the night. Is that normal? Not sure if I should remove the background to get him to use the hides?

I do hope he gets used to him, I'm not that great with snakes myself but do find him rather cute. He was out really early tonight, so he must be feeling more settled now and my daughter is so excited about holding him after the weekend.

Hi and welcome. Congrats on your new addition. Maybe when your hubby gets used to him he will be happy for you to get more

Hi :)

My hubby doesn't mind Fluffy, but he'll have nothing to do with him, cause he is my snake :) Suits me fine.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone We actually intended to buy both yearlings, but Husband really freaked out at the thought of them escaping we were lucky to get one at all! I'd love a baby corn, so may sneak one in at a later date perhaps when Voldemort goes into a bigger tank in 6 months time...would be a shame to have an empty tank after all

Hehehe my hubby is scared of them too. I have 5 (soon more) and hes constantly got the fear that they will escape (he's a big jessie)

Thank you both At least I can stop worrying about him now. It is so strange when I check on him at night to see him out and about, still not quite used to that yet! My Husband is scared of snakes, when I told him the snake was out he almost passed out as he though he had escaped

Hi there .

sounds about right there are people who have posted before about their snakes hiding behind there and theres never usually a problem. Snake will just be nervous and trying to settle into the new surroundings. You are doing the right thing by making her wait a week (heehee cruel mum) it will essentialy give snake the time to settle in etc.

As for coming out late at night, thats about right too. Some will come out during the day etc just depends on the snake. xx

Greetings from Suffolk also :-)
It sounds as though he just likes it back there...i'm pretty sure it's not a problem.
