Hi,

New here, looking to 'possibly' get a hatchling. Have seen the initial set-up thread and read quite a few of the threads.

Any idea how long will it generally take to grow out of a faunarium into a vivarium?

When I get a viv, do I have to get a heat bulb, or can I carry on using a heat mat?

I'm thinking of getting a Hypo Lavender or an Orange...are they expensive / hard to find morphs?

Hi and welcome, Kellogs is in a faun, but that is just our preference

Hi and welcome.

That seems very over expensive. Some keep hatchlings in faunariums, some keep them in rubs. You can make air holes in the rubs using a drill or a heated metal skewer. You can get a set-up for a hatchling for less than £100 easily. Have a look online at the equipment you need. Surrey Pet Supplies, Reptile Keeping Online or one of our forum members' site Renza Pets and exotics should have the equipment you need at a good price. In regards to the snake, you can pick up a hatchie for as little as £10 from a breeder, have a look on Preloved for some in your area.

I r from just outside Birmingum.

So are people suggesting that I keep a new one in a rub rather than in a faunarium?

Can they breath in there?

Spoke to the hollybush the other day and they were sugesting over £200 for the set up (lights not mat) and £50-60 for the little 'un, which goes pretty much against everything I've read here.

Hey, welcome. It is generally suggested to move them up RUB sizes until they are of suitable size for the Viv - and as others have suggested, it will vary with all snakes

Wotcha.

It'll probably take a while. I got a couple of yearlings that are still comfortable in RUBs for a while yet.

As K said, heat mat is fine for corns. But you really MUST get a thermostat. All responsible owners should have stats on their mats, but it's an expense the shops don't tend to tell you about, because often the stat costs about as much as the snake...

Hello and welcome.
The time it takes to grow out of a faun into a viv can vary with all snakes. If you got a 5 week old hatchie it would tak elonger than say a 6 month old. As well as the fact that so many snakes grow at different speeds.

When you get the viv you can carry on using a heat mat, some people (myself included) fit small led lights purely for better viewing of our snakes without the risk of hot bulbs.
