Hi all,
Just wanted to introduce myself to everyone.
I have recently taken ownership of a 3 month old snake which we have called Khan.
My 7yr old son has been asking for months and I finally caved in around 5 weeks ago.
Not sure of Khan's type as he is sort of greys, browns and blacks with a white and black chequred belly.
Never kept any sort of reptile before so this is a first for our household.
Khan came in a horrible little plastic container with no heating and just a small hollow log as a hide (I have since added a heatmat underneath and extra hides and water). I have just finished building his viv and hope to transfer him over this week after the temperatures have settled down a little.
Any hints and tips would be greatly appreciated as my son is looking to me as the font of all knowledge (as they do at that age).
I will post some pics of the viv and of Khan over the next few days. |

Hi all, been looking at morphs and from what I can tell Khan maybe an Anery Lavender. What would your opinions be? |

Hiya and welcome. As already said, a plastic tub is fine for a little one. You should have it so that only 1/3-1/2 is on the heatmat so that snakie has a warm and cool end. You need to make sure you have a thermostat to control the heat and a digital thermometer to check the temperature. You want a couple of hides, one at each end and a water bowl. You can also put in some fake greenery to provide some cover. |

Hi and welcome. As said above,the smaller the enclosure the better for your little one. Clip seal butty type boxes and fauns are ideal for a snake that age. Is the heatmat statted and do you have a digital thermometer?
The first snake I got was for my children just over a year ago and I now have 11....you've been warned.  |

Hi there, congrats on the new addition to the family - and good luck in staying with just the one, i started with 1 in feb and now have 3, its very addictive, definately need pics.
If the snake is 3 months it only needs a small house, a viv will be too big just yet, little hatchlings get frightened in too big surroundings and tend not to thrive, they can go off their food. the general rule for size of housing is the width and length should = the length of the snake. and be careful they are fantastic escape artists, hatchies have been known to get through gaps as small as 5mm so make sure all gaps are secured and air holes really are tiny. |

From the colourings you describe, it sounds like Khan may be an Anerythristic (Anery) corn snake like my Shoezy. |

Hey, welcome to the forum
We'll need to see pictures...lots of pictures How big is the viv? You won't want the viv to be too big (it'd make the snake nervous and quite stressed) - there is lots of useful info in the "sticky" threads that should answer most/all of your questions. One good tip for a beginner is to put a clean sock (or something similar) in your pocket/bra for a day and sit it in the viv - this'll help Khan get used to your scents quicker |
