Posted - 29/09/2011 : 21:18:22 Hi
A great site you all have here; I've already learnt bits and pieces from reading the forum posts, so thanks
I've been fascinated by snakes for a number of years now and always try to watch any and all programmes on TV where snakes are the subject; I don't know what it is about them, but I just have to watch?! Discovery & NatGeo channels are a Godsend, whatever would I do without them?!
Anyway, long story short, I've been considering getting a snake for about 18 months and I went on holiday in Somerset recently and found Tropiquaria, a zoo that has animal encounters. My first ever encounter was with a 5' boa and she was a stunner, needless to say I got a real buzz from handling her. Came home two days later, checked for reptile breeders/centres locally and spent the next two hours handling various size corns, starting with hatchlings all the way up to a full grown. Went back on the Sunday and bought our gorgeous girl, Maizie; she's a little beauty. We bought her home on Saturday and she spent some time exploring, but she's still quite shy at the moment and doesn't like to come out and show herself. I took her out for a couple of evenings to handle her and get her used to me and am now waiting for her to finish digesting before I handle again, either tomorrow or Saturday. I gave Maizie her first feed last night and she took that and snuck back into her hide with it, but I saw her head moving over the fluff and then the jaw re-alignment and I'm as proud as punch .
As soon as I can get a decent pic, I will post up or add her to my sig.
Look forward to meeting you all and thanks again for your help so far. |

I must confess, I'm a little worried about the number of members throughout the forums who keep mentioning the magical appearance of numerous additional corns!!! Hehe, I'm sitting here now thinking, no, I wont be like that. Time will tell eh! |
