Posted - 07/01/2012 : 17:45:37 Hello everyone, have been visiting this forum for a couple of weeks and doing my research,as i wanted to make sure i knew as much as possible before buying my corn.Ive never kept any sort of reptile before, but have fell in love with corn snakes
Picked him up this afternoon,we picked a normal in the end as he was the best looking in the shop!He is settling very well into his viv.Ive not managed to get any good pictures of him as he was very skitish when the camera lens came near him!!So ive popped him away to settle in. He was only fed yesterday at the reptile shop so we are goin gto give him a week to settle in before feeding him. We were given 'fuzzys' to feed him on (I thought they looked far too big for him, but the guy in the shop said we would be surprised!)
Percy is about 4 months old,and I guess around 20cm long at the moment. I asked the guy at the shop if the 2ft viv ive got would be too big for him, but he sid it should be fine. Ive put in plenty of hides and some fake foliage so he doesnt feel too lost in there.
Im sure i will probably be back this week with some questions for you guys and to show you some pictures when Percy is settled in.

Posted - 12/01/2012 : 21:16:43 hi there, be careful with the sliding doors, they 'can' be a route for escape, i came back one evening to find my yearling half out from the gap between the sliding doors, so pleased i came home when i did, the gap is now plugged with folded cardboard so he can't play the great escape game. |

Posted - 07/01/2012 : 21:06:03 Hi Elicia, congrats on the snake. All snakes are different, some can be put off by the larger spaces, others not. Pack it full and nice and cramped, but don't be surprised if you don't see much of them. If they aren't feeding in the next month, then you may want to consider a smaller area to start them off.
Feel free to ask as many questions as you like :)
See you at work ;) |

Posted - 07/01/2012 : 19:15:44 i new to all this aswell and all i have ever read that does not differ from care sheet to care sheet is not to put them in a big viv. they sell small plastic animal tubs in most pet shops, or even a small fish tank would do. or if you have any other means of sectioning off the viv and thecould then gradually increase the size.

Posted - 07/01/2012 : 18:13:36 Hello and welcome, I'm new on here and to snake keeping too, and like you read loads on here first. I agree with ScalySituation that a 2ft viv is too big for a small snake. All the advice I have had so far from off here has been invaluable |

Posted - 07/01/2012 : 17:51:38 I thought that!and was going to keep him in a sandwich type box, inside the viv, but the guy who sold him me was adamant that he would be ok. Ive made sure that theres no way he could squeeze out anywhere (ive got the glass sliding doors type viv) and hes curled up in his coconut at the moment , so shall see how he gets on. |
