hay just after some advise.

IM looking at getting a cou[ple of bearded dragons (hopefully in the new year) to go in my 4 foot wooden viv exotic viv. Have had a bit of a look around and spoken to a few reptile shops and seen alot of variety in the way they are set up...heating/lighting etc. m)
I knwo the basics that they need uv lighting and a spot lamp. However i have seen different types used, some with cages around ulbs some with hoods, varrying lengths of uv tubs etc. Some with night lights some with out. IM hopping to buy the set up bit by bit monthly so can make sure it 100% right before getting then animals.
Just wandering if anyone can recomend the best way to do it, pics would be appreciated to (and best/cheapest place to get it fro

Thankyou very much, really want to make sure i get it right. YOu dont have a seperate light lamp then as well as the red heat and uvb..sure i read somewhere that said needed 3 lamps or is it not necessary? I was wandering about whether guard necessary the viv is only 1.5 foot tall (aprox) so was worried the light would hang to low?
Yeah my plan is get the lighting/heating sorted this month as most expensive get all wired etc and then gradually build decor etc up..contemplated putting shelves in the viv as have seen these in a store (they have sand paper like material on them)
Also want sa background, if i get one do i need to cut holes in for the vents like for tthe snake?

I have my UV tube going as far along as possible the length of the viv, it's a 36 inch one from recollection, in a 48 inch viv.
It sits about 12 inchs up the back of the viv, and is unguarded.

The heat lamp is a red spot lamp, which hangs about 15-18 inchs from their basking area and is connected to a 500w dimmer stat that's set to near max, I don't have guards around the heatlamp, as beardies don't climb or try to get onto things as much as snakes do, so a guard is not really needed unless the lamp is to close, in which case you need to move the lamp not guard it.
I leave my heatlamp on 24/7, I just turn it down a few degrees at night when their UVB goes off.
The UVB is on a timer to go on at 9am and off at 10pm, giving them 13 hours of 'daylight' however more often than not they'll go and put themselves to bed a few minutes before the light goes off.

Beardie setups are generally a bit pricey to get together, the lamps, ceramic fittings, dimmer stat, uvb, starter and any other little odds, so buying gradually is always a seemingly cheaper way, but just remember that most uvb tubes need replacing every 6-10 months (depending on brand), or you can dispose of the starter if you go for a compact uvb, but those are better in smaller setups to be honest.
