just thought id do a post about the lucky reptile heat mats and their instructions for how to use the heat mats..

it basically said to put the heat mat on either the side of the faun/viv or the roof NOT on the floor or under it..it then went on to explain that this was because out in the wild the snake gets its heat from the sun and to put the heat mat on the underside of the housing would go against what was natural..

il have a search for the booklet so i can put what it actually said up but i have a feeling i threw it away..but that was th general jist of it!

because i already had mont and knew to put the heat mat on the underside i wasnt going to follow their instructions but i wonder how many people new to snake keeping would follow their advice??

They have got the fact that the mats use infrared to heat the surfaces around them, similar to the sun but they are then thinking about a lamp that must be over the spot.

another example of generic fits-all-reptiles type advice..........rather than specific snake/species advice

yes because i have done a lot of research and corns get their heat from their belly.how many photos can you see of a corn out sunbathing.none because they are shy creatures and usually hide away so how can they get heat from the sun.these people should do a bit of research themselves especially when selling products especially when it could mean the difference between life or death of a much loved pet.
