Hey there :)

I am currently having a hell of a time to find Discordia's food. See in Spain we don't have many companies delivering frozen mice; there's just one and they were willing to charge me Eur.50 for one 1kg mice box, with a minimum purchase of two boxes. Right, as if I had 10+ snakes.

Until I find something more appropriate I am getting my supplies at the best reptile shop I've found (yeah, don't come here for snake-tourism, it's lame) but his supplier comes every Monday with whatever he has in stock. No hoppers on the last three weeks, so I was running out of stock.

Thing is, the guy from the pet shop offered me rat pinkies in substitution, until he receives some hoppers. I bought five of them, just in case, and I will feed Discordia with the first one tomorrow unless you advise me not to.

A priori I don't see any harm in that, but maybe some particulars escape my understanding. What do you think?

Thanks in advance :)

M.

Just go for what you think is best, you know Discordia better than we do!

Thanks Serena! :D It's really helpful and not as bad as I expected! A rat pinky for a medium mice is less calories, more proteins and more minerals... So for a temporary solution it's not that bad.

I was thinking on feeding every 9 days instead of 7 because Discordia is not an active snake... But now I think I'll just stick to the calendar. What do you think?

Here's a link to the nutritional value of rats/mice.

Thank Auld Baldy for it though lol!

Rat pinks are okay, but like Georgina said, remember they have a higher fat content than mice and keep an eye on Discordia's weight.

I switch and change between rats/mice, although I tend not to feed rats consecutively.

They (my snakes) aren't getting fat (touch wood for now lol)

As they are out every other day excercizing I don't see much of an issue!

Rats tend to be fattier than mice. But I'm sure a couple if feeds won't hurt as long as they are not too big. I know a couple if people that breed there own nice and use a gas chamber to kill them humanly. Not idea. or somethibg i think i woukd, l but a thought x
