Hey, I was wondering if you guys could help me. My snake has recently developed a lump...
Alice, my corn snake is around 5.6ft long. I have only owned her for the past six to seven months but I was told by the previous owner that she is around five years old. I say 'She' however I don't know for certain that she is female, I was told that by her last owner too.
For all the time Ive had her shes been in perfect health. She eats regularly, a large mouse every two weeks, without fail (unless shes in blue) and she goes to the toilet regularly, Within at the most two days after being fed. I feed her outside her viv to ensure she doesn't ingest the substrate.
She sheds regularly and usually with no problems.
Shes kept in a 4 by 2ft viv, with two levels. Shes has two hides, a heat mat (controlled thermostat) Fake plants, and paper based substrate. Large water bowl, and a branch to climb.
The problem-
As of last week, I have felt a lump in her body, its about an inch away from her anal plate. Its not 'under the skin' its within her actual body. Its fairly firm, and doesnt move. You can see the size difference in her body (almost like when they need to poop)
I dont know what it is, and im really quite worried!!
Ive searched the internet for answers but all I can find to answer this is that she's 'Gravid' Now, I don't know much at all about this, but she's never had eggs before and she has never been kept with another snake.
PLEASE HELP! Verry worried mum here!

Thats not very wise, a lot of animals, snakes and other reps included tend to hide serious illnesses very well, they dont show any outward signs of weakness until its too late.
To me, it sounds more like a minor impaction, but it depends where it is, it would also be a cyst or a tumour, so in this case, i would say deffo go to the vets, they will probably ultrasound it or xray, then go from there.
As with any animal, if you are unsure, go to the vets, might cost you a few quid, but at least you have done what you know you can. |

pics would definitely help.........
it could be a fatty lump, an abscess, a cyst, eggs......
is the lump on one or both sides?
is it definitely just over the last week that it's appeared?
is it getting bigger in size?
does she seem to resent you poking and prodding it ie. is it uncomfortable?
she doesn't need to have been in with a male to produce eggs (though they will be infertile 'slugs') but try not to worry too much yet  |

I think a visit to the vet for a proper diagnosis and your peace of mind is your best bet. It could be anything or nothing but better to get it expertly checked. Hope it goes well.  |
