Posted - 31/05/2012 : 04:59:13 I am getting a corn snake on saturday and I am trying to set up the terrarium. I am using cocofiber as the substrate and have a coconut hide and a rock hide. I didnt want to spend 30 dollars on a undertank heat pad so i have a lamp on top of the lid and a lamp on one side. The side lamp was really heating up the glass in that area to where i couldnt touch it without it hurting. Could that possibly burn the snake?? It's close enough to the ground that the snake might touch that area of the glass. I NEED HELP BY SATURDAY!!! thanks! |

its worth getting a heat mat to say how long you will have the snake.. and you dont want there to be any part of the viv that the snake cant go in. I mean, they're not stupid, but they do burn them selves often if an area is too hot. there's a stickied thread i think explaining why a stat is so important |

Um yeah... you putting your hand on it and it hurting means your hand is burning for a starters so if a snake comes in contact with thata area ... |

Posted - 31/05/2012 : 13:24:32 The way your trying to heat it just isn't a viable way to do it. Even if the lamps where set on dimming stats they will cause to much heat directly on the glass. Without seeing you set up its hard to say if lamps are suitable full stop. U really do need to invest in a mat an stat for the sake of your snake when u get it. |

Posted - 31/05/2012 : 12:48:38 if you want to start keeping a corn saying you dont want to spend cash on a heatmat really shouldnt be an option. Heat mats and themostats are essential to avoid any snake burns. |

Posted - 31/05/2012 : 07:43:19 It will definitely burn it - corns needs a heat source which can barely be felt to be warm to the touch for us - if it's too hot for you it's dangerously hot for a corn. You also need a thermostat for any heat source and a guard for any bulb. |

Im sure your mum will kindly buy you a heat mat and thermostat if you explain to her. |
