Hello all, hope your all well..
I keep pretty good track of my 2 corn snakes, I have one male and one female that are housed together in a large enough viv. My setup is one water bowl, heat mats, a hide, greenery and a large branch to climb which has been out for a weeks now till I get it in there properly (it kept falling over and I didn't want to danger the snakes).
Anyway the male snake is not eating and it's been four weeks..a month sorry.
I'm really just looking for advice before I take the day off work to take him to the vets.
I've tried to feed him once a week as I always do. He did have a shed half way through those 2 weeks but that was 2 weeks ago..
Thanks in advance! :) |

Posted - 07/06/2012 : 08:49:59 Definitely need to keep them separated at least until older - a female shouldn't breed until 3yrs, 3ft and 300g to be safe. Also as above the male may be stressed by her being there. I hope he's OK, good luck at the vets. |

Posted - 06/06/2012 : 23:28:54 Im not sure to be honest with them being a year old. But its possible. depends how big they are and more if the male is ready to breed. When I caught mine breeding Espher looked like she really didn't want to, kept zooming away from him (I had no idea what was going on at first, then I realised and separated them) But if she is gravid you should be able to tell fairly quickly.
Oh and to answer your question from the other post, my female laid her eggs fine, just laid 7 though, but they all hatched. Not the healthiest clutch though, a couple of them died.
Hope everything is okay with him, dont worry yourself too much lol! and keep us updated wont you x |

It didn't dry though. It stayed runny
I'm going away in a few weeks and this weekend which I can't get out of so I will probably get him checked tomorrow.
Also what is the chance that they've bred? |

Posted - 06/06/2012 : 23:17:29 Maybe, its hard to say if there is anything wrong with him. The poo was probably just pee since he hasnt eaten for a while, a runny liquid that goes a white colour when it dries? I wouldnt worry about that.
And its up to you if you want to get him checked at the vets. In my opinion a lot of snakes stop eating spontaneously and then start again, you may be better waiting a few weeks. Then again I dont want to say that and him turn out to be ill! its up to you.

Posted - 06/06/2012 : 23:07:59 They are both around a year. When your female laid eggs at a young age, did it go okay?
The female fed today as well, she fed perfectly fine tonight!
But the male didn't. He also let out a really white coloured poo which was very runny! I have him separated now.
He has lost 25 grams of weight. He feels so much lighter as well. That is in 4 weeks.
Should I get him checked?
& thanks for your help |

Posted - 06/06/2012 : 23:02:55 How old are your corns? Im not gonna tell you not to cohab, but I just want to warn you that they will breed lol. It happened to me and my female was too small, I was really worried she would become egg bound.
About the non feeder, perhaps it is because of the time of year, its still breeding season I think, nearing the end but perhaps that could be it.
Another idea is that the female snake is making the male snake uneasy, perhaps threatened when feeding. It says this in Kathy Loves book, though when mine cohab'ed for the first few months of us having them, they never had any problems, infact they hardly seemed to notice each other. (Til breeding season lol)
And sometimes they are just plain fussy lol. Don't worry too much, a month isn't that long for a corn to go without eating. Just keep an eye on his health, if he becomes really underweight then id worry, but til then he may just not have an appetite. |
