My male has I dip running down his back he's eating fine but does it mean he's not getting enough? He's a late cb10 just under 3 ft and 125g. I understand they grow at diff speeds but wondered If it rings any alarm bells

I know I am not an expert as my snakes aren't that big yet lol, but I wouldn't jump from fluffs straight to mediums - I'd try smalls like you said just for a few weeks, maybe 2-3 weeks? Assuming there are no problems I'd then up to mediums. Again, someone else may disagree. All I know is that Corno is just about ready for double fluffs/single smalls, and she's only 50g and about 22 inches :)

So should I try him on a small mouse?

The 'dip' is the spine, the ribs and all the muscles anchor either side of the spine so you actually get two bumps either side rather than a dip. A very healthy looking snake. There is nothing in the picture to gauge the size of the snake so its impossible to tell what it should be eating but from the shape of the head he is an adult and for nutritional value should be on older mice. My Spot is on 1 large mouse every 2 weeks, he weighs 354 Grams at last weigh in.

Yeah, my late 2010 normal is about the same weight as yours (A little less infact!) and he's on medium mice.

2 fluffs is definitely not enough for a snake that size (not sure what would be right though, have to wait for a more experienced person to come along lol!) I would guess should be on mediums by now?

Thankyou so much, put my mind at ease that I wasn't underfeeding him, my young girl don't seem to have a dip or ridge tho,
QueenVic Posted - 10/06/2012 : 16:48:33
When they are underweight they get a raised ridge (the spine) that becomes visible, so the opposite of the dip yours has
:)

Ohh i see.
Dont worry, its just the muscles in the snakes back.
(Im fairly certain anyway)

Mine have this also
