Posted - 13/10/2013 : 23:02:17 Im having a little problem figuring out if i just found a mite or not. I was holding one of my yearlings and noticed a lil black bug. So number 1 Iooked at it to make sure it was a bug then I squashed it.but inchecked her over and there wasnt any more coming off her so I checked all the others as well. Checked all the water bowls substrate everythimg and didnt find any more. A few of my snakes have got naturally dotted bellys specially my miami bloodred. Tomorrow im gonna empty out the vivs and replace the woodchips with paper and pour boiling water over all the viv decorations then freeze them but I dont no what else to do. Ive read the stickies and im confused whether or not to use frontline. Some people saying not to because theyve heard of snakes dying coz of it. |

Posted - 14/10/2013 : 21:43:20 I have seen warnings about frontline in various posts as well which would make me nervous of it. We used Callingtons with a definite mite infection when we got Artemis and they were gone in no time at all. We jut used olive oil baths to get rid of them with Prism, but she would happily lay in the water and even go for a little swim so got them off from the tricky spot under her chin - Arty was more resistant and didn't like her head going near the water which is why we resorted to Callingtons for her. |

Posted - 14/10/2013 : 12:35:09 in all honesty wouldn't wait to treat them. Frontline and callingtons are both widely used mite treatments and so long as you follow the destructions all should be well, but with all chemicals you do have to take care.
As for freezing everything, wouldnt bother bugs will just go dormant in the freezer it wont kill them. oven or boil in water. |
