Hi Guys,

I live in north east england and the weather temps are dropping here quite drastically at the minute.

I have a question, my tank is around 30gallon 4ft wide approx.

I have 2 corns in the viv who have been together for over 2 years and are both eating well, shedding fine and pooping well.

I am a tad concerned that the temps in my cool end may be a tad low?

at present (around 10 inches into the cool end of the tank my temps read at 18.2c and in the warm end 31-32 stated temps (which drop no lower than 28 when stat has knocked itself off).

I am happy with the heat in the warm end of the tank but am concerned it may be too cool in the cool end of the tank?

incidentally my water dish is in the cool end of the tank, which i know will not help matters, but it seemed the smarter place to locate it?

will these temps be ok? or do i need to take measures to make the cooler end warmer?

Some more info.

Substrate: Aspen shavings
Water dish: 1 large dish in far side of cooler end of tank
Hides: 3 one in warm end, one in cool end and one in middle (log which they hide in)

Both snakes seem happy enough and healthy enough im just concerned my cool end may be too cool? I rarely see the snakes in the cool end, but know from the mess i find around the dish that they use it through the night. They at present seem to move between inside of the log and the middle of teh tank and the warmer end of the tank (more the warmer end due to recent sheds and cooler weather)

Thanks in advance, and sorry for the rambling.

Thanks for the replies, I indeed got them a couple of months back (but they have been housed together since before i got them:) :)

I tweaked the stat, hot end is fluctuating between 28-30 now. cool end as its night is around 17, they both seem happy enough slithering around :)

As smart bunny said, cool end sounds fine but your hot end is too hot!

I thought you said (on your other thread) that you only bought your second corn a couple of months ago? Do you know the sexes of both snakes? They will breed if they can, which could be bad for a female if she is too young/small. May not be an issue but just thought I would point it out in case.

As far as temps go, as above I wouldn't worry about the cool end temps - but the hot end shouldn't really go over 30C, 32 is too high, 28 is perfect, so I would drop that down a little.

The cool end temp wont really matter as the snakes move from one end to the other and will find what suits them best
