I have an adult corn unsure of age although have beeb told she is at least 8 years old. Three weeks ago she started to eat her large mouse- got past the head then spat it out. I removed the offending mouse waited a week and tried again- this time no interest in the mouse so I removed it the next morning. Today tried a smaller mouse which I brained she was veryinterested came over wrapped her chops round but then spat it out again. Is there anything anyone would sugest temps are ok she is active and inquisitive and I have been handling her a lot less since all this has gone on. |

I don't have an explanation for you Neil and would agree with Smartbunny about a visit to the vet being the best option. It's the fact that she's trying to eat and then stopping that concerns me and makes me wonder if there is an issue with her mouth.
I'm not sure about this being down to brumation. As far as I know captive snakes will only brumate if the temp in their vivs is lowered and it's not as though she is refusing the food totally, instead she's trying to eat it and then stopping.
Best option is get her checked out. Do you have a reptile vet near you?

I really am not sure, but it certainly sounds like there could be some sort of problem with her mouth? Would suggest a vet visit to be honest. It's not just that she is being startled whilst being fed or something? Have you tried leaving her completely alone whilst feeding? Also, can you get in contact with her previous owner? It would be useful to know if she regularly stops feeding around this time of year as some snakes (usually males) stop feeding for brumation naturally around this time. |

Thought I'd add a bit more info- have had her since august and she has always feed well- except when shedding which she's done twice now. She's always eaten med- large mice execpt for one small rat which she had about 7 weeks ago. Large viv which she has settled into well. Cheers for replies in advance. |
