Posted - 20/11/2010 : 10:57:18 I my fist snake at the same age as you :D I got a normal too :3 I also congrats you on researching :3 No library near me had good books on corns, and if they did they were very old and had such wrong and outdated information and petshop was useless :( This place is a great place for corn care, there are different opinions at times but it's all good.
All you have to do is wash your hands or where ever it bit you with soap. |

Posted - 06/11/2010 : 13:14:30 one of the most important things if its your very first and you're still learning is DON'T believe the shop when they say you don't need a thermostat - they are an essential piece of kit to prevent your new snake from getting too hot which can lead to neurological problems and even death :(
Another thing is if you want to save a stack of cash, find a local breeder. If they still have corns left for sale they will be much cheaper than buying from the shop. Also check out the DIY section on the forum too :)
.....and welcome to the world of cornsnakes - be warned though, its very addictive! :D |

I started when i was 8, there was no info on the internet then, it was all books, down the library with mothers library card, getting all the books i could read!! I ended up having to go to a different library because i had read all the books in the local one!!!
You can find vast amounts of information both here and googling for it, some of it wont be any good, some you may think is useless, but, all info is useful to know, even if its how NOT to do something!! |

Posted - 06/11/2010 : 11:42:23 It's lovely that you're getting a snake. I wish I could have had one at your age. There's 2 good stickies on here about setting up for cornsnakes. One if for hatchlings and the other is for adults. I don't know how to post a link but I'm sure you should be able to find them via the search. They will tell you everything you need to know about what you need and how to get everything ready for your snake. Have a look on the caresheet too, via the homepage, lots of really good information on there. Good luck with it all. Ask if there's anything you're not sure about, we'll try to help. Let us know when you've got your snake, we'd love to know all about him/her! |

if you look in each subsection (eg.general keeping, breeding, health etc) of the forum you'll find 'sticky' topics with loads of useful info
with the 'search' facility on here you can also click on 'search archives' to bring up even more info |
