OK so I keep crazy detailed records for Spot. His first shed was a good lesson, for instance I know he went into hiding 6 days before he went blue. (On the third day of hiding just to check him, I took him out to check him, his belly had gone very milky) He was in blue for 3 days, then it was 2 days until he finally shed his skin.

So on Wednesday he came out for a poo and a drink (not at the same time) and has been hiding ever since. Today I needed to fix the hygrometer I broke So I dug Spot out of hiding to check him over and his belly has gone milky.

I have a good idea of what to expect now and I know Spot is calm even when shedding, I will feed him on Sunday as normal, I'll leave it upto him as to whether he takes it or not, he fed just fine last time he was shedding, (well I say that, he actually shed while I was feeding him last time, I took the food away and let him get on with it, fed him the next day).

He finished his last shedding on the 24th October so at the moment it appears to be that he is growing so quickly he only gets about 2 weeks of non-shedding time before its back to the hide for another shed session. Not sure if its normal but Spot is happy, calm and healthy so I won't worry myself over it.

I woke up this morning to a snake skin, its amazing just how exciting that is. I cant believe the size of this shed too, I still have the 1st shed and side by side its incredible, I don't compare length as it stretches so doesn't give an accurate idea of length but the size of the head is about 3 times the size it was. It was 2 days earlier than I expected but it was a good one piece shed with both eye caps and tail piece. I also thought I'd lost Spot too as he wasn't in his usual hides, but I bought him a snake cave a week ago and he was hidden in there underneath the moss and it was the one place I didn't look.

Freaky!! You'll have to let us know the outcome!

OK right on time and as predicted Spot is in blue, now if things carry on exactly as before he'll clear up on Thursday and shed on Sunday. That's exactly what he did last time, even the days match.

You never know, you could be lucky and it be quicker!! I think they tease us Loki has shed both times perfactly without the need for extra humidity so I'm sure Spot will be fine. Heh,heh they look as fed up as us owners don't they when they are in shed!

Hmmm maybe it will be a bit longer then, well what will be will be. I'm just leaving him to it now, at night I put a towel over the front of the viv so he gets peace. The humidity is high in the viv at the moment so I dont need to do anything moisture related. They do look very miserable when they are shedding if that's even possible and you do miss them when they aren't about.

Lokis second shed was completely different than his first. The whole process took about a week and half the first time. The second time however,he went into hiding for a lot longer previous to shedding. He fed both times just before going into blue but he seemed to be in blue for ages last time. On the whole it was about 2 and a half weeks!
Really missed him, although it was cool that he shed on Halloween

It wouldn't surprise me if he did change his routine. I am just using the last shed as a guide, its unlikely to be exactly the same, if it is I'll have even more of an idea for next time.

I would say for a new snake owner writing as much info as you can down is the best reference guide to identifying behaviour traits in your snake.
