Can I put the heat mat that I currently have UNDER my faunarium INSIDE a wooden vivarium?
Are they impervious to liquid, etc.? |

You can actually use a heat mat underneath a wooden viv, but the mat would be so hot that I would consider it a danger. It much better to put the mat inside, you can then cover it with lino or newspaper if you wish.
Mats are not water proof. The sheet is, but the unit housing the connection from the wire to the sheet is not.
So is it OK inside the wooden viv? Is there any tips for making it less prone to damage if it is accidentally spilt on?
Its fine in a wooden viv. I choose to cover my mats with lino, but many people leave it with just a light covering of substrate without problems. As Mike said, you can seal the joint with aquarium sealant to water proof it. |
