My mum and I are having an ongoing debate on weather Noodle is male or female. I think he's male and she thinks 'she's' female.

So was hoping some of you guys could help .

Here he/(she) is from the side.

And from underneath.

I looked online that you can get a good idea weather they are male and female from the 'transition' after there 'poop hole'.

So hope you experts can help please.

Thanks, Ashley (and Noodle.

the only 100% way to tell the sex is to see the males hemipenes or to see the female lay eggs. Any other method cannot be guaranteed.

the taper and curve are two different things, curve has nothing to do with it, it is about the taper though, females taper quicker than males.
Generally snakes dont store fat on their tails though, so its not too much of an issue with a fat snake.
Females have shorter tails than males, thats pretty much the way across all snakes.
Any visual attemp HAS to be done from the bottom veiw, doing it from above is pure guess work.

I know, easy to tell from he underside! I know my male has a much longer tail than my girl. It's just when people go on about the whole "tamper and curve" then looking from the above view of the snake, that's where the info get's muddled from sheet's Iv'e read! It's just when people start going "males tails look stubby because of the hemipenis and girls look more curved and therefore longer" Girls tails look "stubbier" do to me as they taper quickly. I don't like the stubby or tampered method, someone could have a fat snake XD

if you know what you are looking for then you can tell from looking, it is accurate, again, if you know what to look for, sometimes some snakes have slightly different 'curves' and it can be tricky. Probing is not 100% accurate all of the time either, you can get false females, and if you are too rough, false males too.

The pictures you posted at the top arent nearly clear enough even for a guess.

Oh yeah, its the best way, you can use underpants instead of a towel but the towel is guaranteed to get results. Strop = slamming viv doors, throwing water bowls. Any exaggerated heavy movements.

So my snakey is definitely a female

Similarly,if you hide the tv remote when the footy is on and it has a *hissy* fit you'll know its a male

Ahh, does this really work?

And can you define 'throw a strop' please.

:)

better to give them a call make sure they can do it before you take your snake to the shop just incase they cant.

Thanks

Second (or 3rd!) that.. once they're not babies it's best to go and get them probed, this is the only sure-fire way to tell sex of a corn. Usually females have a more sudden drop off after the vet area, males have a smoother curvature to the tail, so I'd say 75% male at a guess... (well he either is 100% one or the other, but you know what I mean!)

Like I said - Vets or pet shop is the way forward if you want to be sure!

Let us know!

As lotabob says.
lotabob Posted - 25/11/2010 : 19:34:43
That will never work I'm afraid. Check if your local reptile shop can sex him/her.
