Posted - 08/01/2011 : 15:28:38 Hi, ive jus moved my 15yr old corn snake into a new 3ft viv. I think she is freaking out a little as she has been in her old viv her whole life! and she is tunnelling around alot in the aspen stuff. I am just a bit worried though she doesnt seem to want to stay on the heat mat and is getting very cold off of it! it feels a good temp with the aspen on top but does feel quite hot to the touch without the substrate (i dont think it has a thermometre) :( I think it might be too hot for her as shes tunnelling all the time, can anyone suggest anything? Maybe i can cover it with something? |

Posted - 08/01/2011 : 16:00:22 A simple on/off Habistat would be fine, I have a fair few of these and find them very reliable. A digital thermometer is also very useful. You can get both items pretty cheap off ebay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DIGITAL-THERMOMETER-FAST-DISPATCH-/330488864018?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Reptiles_Spiders_Insects&hash=item4cf2abdd12#ht_3223wt_946 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Temperature-Thermostat-Reptile-Snake-Lizard-Vivarium-/370122746518?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Reptiles_Spiders_Insects&hash=item562d08ea96#ht_2233wt_907 |

Posted - 08/01/2011 : 15:32:12 You need to get 2 things asap. A thermostat to keep the heat mat at the correct temp and a digital thermometer to read the temp of the heat mat.
If the heat mat feels very hot then chances are its way too hot. My heat mat only just feels warm to the touch and is running at the correct temp with a thermostat.
How did you heat the old viv the snake was in? |

Posted - 08/01/2011 : 15:32:07 are you using a thermostat? If you dont then you really need to get one as the mat can get to temperature that may burn your snake. |
