Hi,

I got a nice surprise coming home from work today - my hatchling set up has all arrived. However, it was all packed with lots and lots of shredded paper. It's basic white computer type paper, with some printing on. Basically what you'd expect to clear out of a shredder at work. I figure it's cleaner than newspaper, and the ink is less likely to rub off.

I like to recycle, and was wondering, could I use this as a substrate? I bought aspen shavings anyway, and have currently lined the faun with kitchen roll for when it first arrives, but as the old saying goes "waste not, want not".

Thanks.

I use lino on the bottom of all my vivs but I stuff the hides with shredded newspaper now and again or leave a lump in one of the corners. My snakes LOVE hiding in it and getting it everywhere.

Ok, so I should have done this before.

Just did a forum search and have found a few people use it, or have used it, with no problems. Just watch out for any dust. So I'll stick it over to one side and use it when I move off the kitchen roll. Won't be a permanent solution though.

Thanks for looking, and sorry for not searching before. I've learnt my lesson!

I used shredded paper that was just shredded one way, it was terrible :( it kept moving all together. However, Cross chopped stuff that's finer works a lot better.
