Took Karuza out tonight, she was a bit on the hyper side, She usually takes a warm spot in my jumper after being handled for a while but she was there straight away tonight. Then i noticed her cloudy little eyes and being a bit dull. My girl is going Blue for the first time with me :D Im so giddy! I want to see her shed!

She was also due a feed tonight, wasnt sure if she would take it but she was great, strike and coil :) Thats ma girl!

Cant wait to get her all shiny again

*sigh* im still waiting :o(

Really thought she was going to shed late last night, there was alot of activity in her viv, so i sneaked over.....tail lifted....poop! Then went back to her favourite spot in the viv and fell asleep!

Come on Karuza! Shake off that skin little lady!

I remember Rogue's first shed with me, i caught him mid act, i had tried to feed him like 30mins previously and went up to see if he had taken it. He had and was mid shed, he looked at me with disgust, as if to say "do you bloody well mind!!" so i left him to it ;)

He is in blue atm and normally sheds just after a feed or upto 24hrs later and i fed him last night. He seemed to be shedding every month and a day, but this one is early (3rd shed) so he must be growing faster lol. In fact im going to check on him now :D

You shouldn't feed her so regularly, especially not on consecutive days. It takes several days for them to digest a meal, so feeding every day means her stomach never gets a rest. That's just asking for a regurge.

Every 5-7 days at the very least is plenty. If she can't manage medium mice then give her the 2 small mice at the same time. Once she is on a regular feeding schedule she will start to steadily put on weight.

Awww ok! Thanks for that, will give her 2 at a time then. Got a new scales coming this week so will get her weighed properly, and get her length too. Will check back when i have all that done!

Also prepared for shed, got a damp cloth over her favourite hide. Hopefully she sheds ok too!

Really hope she gets more yellow at her nose! Cant wait to see! She is due another feed again later (she gets 1 small mouse again) so will see if she will come close enough so i can check her eyes again. Its really hard to tell with Snows! Thank goodness for that other thread someone posted, all the signs were there!

How often are you feeding her? I may have read it wrong but it sounds like she had a mouse last night and you are giving her another tonight?

Yeah thats right, she is seriously underweight (can see her spine) BUT she has a defect that she cant actually swallow bigger mice, so its 2 small mice she gets, I am going to try and change this once she has beefed up a bit. Going to weigh her next week hopefully. As i said, the defect is what prevents her eating larger mice. Also with previous owner she never regularly fed. Maybe once every couple of months when she got mice. no routine was ever established.

Am i doing it wrong?! Any advice welcome because the way iv been told to do it seemed stupid. But thought it was best because of her not being able to swallow properly apparently....

I would go as far as to expect a bad shed is coming and act now to prevent it. You need to raise the humidity, make a moss box, or just a pile of moss in a corner or even a moist face cloth over one of the hides, anything that will get the humidity to rise. Moss in hides/moss boxes are best as the snake can get right in there amongst the moisture, its not good for the snake long term but as a short term solution its fine.

Ok dokes! Guess its better to try and prevent a bad shed than try and fix one! Will go and get that done just now. She is out and about alot more than usual today. Maybe looking for her next feed....

Waiting for the 1st shed is an exciting time, though a little worrying too.

I hope you manage to see her shed, it really is an amazing thing to watch. After over 6mths of trying, I finally saw Barnaby shed last week. :-D
Mamma Posted - 07/08/2011 : 00:11:40
If she sheds badly make a moist hide for her and pop it in her viv. I did this a few times with Romeo cos he was a bad shedder... now I dont have to cos he is shedding fine. It's deffo worth trying xxx
kdlang Posted - 07/08/2011 : 00:10:41
Oooo so exciting. Watch out for her eyes clearing and then spend the next few days watching to see if you can catch her in the act. They usually like to time it for when we are just getting a cuppa or answering the phone. I once stayed up nearly all night as I was sure Alice was about to shed. It's the only time I have witnessed a full shed and managed to video it. Usually I see them just as they have finished or I wake up to a shed in the morning.
Aegis Posted - 07/08/2011 : 00:09:28
Me too Mamma, bit worried as im sure last owner said she had probs shedding previously.
Mamma Posted - 07/08/2011 : 00:04:33
