I've been looking at upgrading our tank, and have found a bigger version of our exo terra terrarium at a really good price. Our snake is 1 yr old and is 26" long, he's currently in a 12x12x12 inch, and the one I'm thinking of is 24x18x24 inch. Is this too big a jump in size? Would I be better with the next size up which is 18x18x18 inch? I don't want to freak him out, but do feel he needs more room sooner rather than waiting another 4-6 months as I was advised. Thanks

Ive had a hatchling squeeze out if the vivexotic between the glass doors I watched him do it to I just used an A4 sheet of paper an older it a few times as a wedge the wee bugar didn't escape again

Definetely check it out first. As i says tho the hole is tiny, can just get my finger nail in it. As for cable holes mine is so small it barely fits the cables through it :)

Smalls snakes can easily squash tehir head down like rats to fit through smaller gaps. Although my viv exotics are the older ones and are stacked so there is more of a gap between glass doors. I've never sealed my vents although I probably should but they ahven't prised them open, not even the king has mangaed it yet and he's always at them trying to lift them open.

That's great thank you :-)I think there's a chance he could get his tiny little head through there, so would have to look into a way to block it I think.I never thought about cable/vent holes either, so that's given me something else to think about :-)

Not a problem. Had to sort out the viv anyways, I used this tape measure just to show, i can just get the metal bit in and no more (i got it stuck) Then 2nd photo is the lock i have. Hope this helps!

I reecently moved my biggest yearling into his own 3 foot vivexotic,he's just over 2 and a half feet. I have a wedge so he can't slide open the doors and although the gap between the panes of glass is small I still fixed a paper binder to the edge of one the doors to seal the gap. As Sta~ple mentioned, there is also the pre made cable holes you need to think about. I used mine to hook the plants through though.
In the case of the vent holes I used aquarium sealant as its recommended to use it for sealing the joins anyway.

If you don't mind that would be great :-)

u want me to put a pic up of how small the gap is?! Just to give u an idea.

I'd block off the gap in the door to be safe, they can squish through the tinyest of places. You'd also need to block the cable holes at the top.

The gap in the glass is absolutely tiny! Barely anything to it to be honest. Also it doesnt have to be a lock you get, can be a wedge. But i have kids and a cat so for safety reasons i have a lock. Also the lock makes the glass alot harder to open for little people or snakes! :oD

If I go for the vivexotic I'll glue in the vents (good idea) and add a lock. Hopefully he'll be too big to squeeze through the gap in the glass doors

I have a vivexotic and its pretty escape proof, but i did glue in the vents to be sure. And i have a lock on the front of mine (they are about £5) to make sure she doesnt open the glass :)

I've been looking at the vivexotic, not sure how escape proof they are though? How would you section off a bit of the viv? They do seem a really good price, and nice to look at
Simmy_82 Posted - 11/08/2011 : 13:20:19
Do you get dividers with them??
gingerpony Posted - 11/08/2011 : 13:18:38
i'd go for a 36" vivexotic/other brand of wooden viv, then section off a smaller area to use while your snake is a juvie then you don't have to buy another viv again to house it as an adult - just move or remove the divider as it grows

If you were going to upgrade I'd say the 24x18x24 would be okay as long as there were a few hides in there.

You don't want to leave the snake feeling too exposed in a large space so make sure you break the space up with decor.
