Posted - 30/09/2011 : 16:22:26 hi, with this sudden heat wave we are having my snakes rub/vivs are varying between 23-27 in the cool end. how can i make sure they are cool enough? the cornies are in a RUB and my king snake is in an all glass viv so unable to attach fans. i keep refreshing their water bowls with cool water but is there anything else i can do?

Posted - 02/10/2011 : 17:07:59 I'm having a similar problem, but with the hot end. Once it's time for the stat to turn off the heat stays and will still go up slightly with the mat being warm still. So far it has peaked at 32.8 and slowly dies down again. Is there anything to worry about as long as it's not prolonged? I guess I'm just another over worried newbie snake owner :P |

Posted - 02/10/2011 : 01:06:28 The easiest way to keep your viv cool is move to Scotland or Ireland. Irish summers consist of warmer rain. |

Posted - 01/10/2011 : 18:57:03 This heat is driving me nuts! Not only the lack of cool in the vivs, but has anyone else noticed the number of wasps and mosquitos? I've killed four mozzies today!
Kinda feel sad for the wasps, soon as the heat wave is over they'll probably die because no time to hibernate *again* |

Posted - 30/09/2011 : 19:13:24 don't worry about it too much, they're tough critters and get mega hot days out in the wild too. If its really hot in the viv and theres no escape from it (in the wild they'd go underground or someplace out of the heat) you could try putting in a bottle of chilled water that they can cool down against |

Posted - 30/09/2011 : 18:20:41 I'm glad you asked that hunnieb, as I'm having the same problem. It's about 77/78 in the cool end at the moment and I've kept the curtains closed all day to try and keep the sun/heat out :-( |
