Posted - 05/02/2012 : 21:43:12 Hi About two sheds ago, my hatchie Eddie left the tip of his tail on after a shed. I tried to get it off by bathing him and running him through a towel, but it wouldn't come off and so I just left it until the next shed to see if it would come off by itself. But it hasn't come off. You can see it's way too small for his tail already and I don't know what to do! I bathed him again but he just got stressed and it still wouldn't come off. What should I do??? Please help thanks |

Posted - 06/02/2012 : 07:38:35 Thanks guys, I swapped it last night with kitchen roll because I thought the same. I will probably be able to get some antiseptic tonight. |

Did both lots of skin come off, from both sheds? Can you see a wound on him, you can get some iodine based antiseptic to put on it, i'm sure he'll be fine though, even better for not having the skin on
I think there might have been, as when I wiped the blood off there was more there a minute later. I will look again tomorrow and try to find something for it... There's a local pet shop which may sell healing-aid stuff, if that would be any good. From all I can see, both skins have come off so hopefully he'll be ok. I'll see if I can get the antiseptic tomorrow |

there is a possiblity i suppose, but its more important to remove it, harry squirmed but i think because he didn't like me holding his tail, imagine a bird coming down for a feed getting hold of the snakes tail, him squirming will probably help, if you hold where the skin is still attached and let him pull his tail back out of your fingers, let us know how it goes and if you manage to get it off
EDIT Our snakes often know if we're trying to help them too, i'm sure he'll be feeling uncomfortable with it being there
OK so I just tried it again, squeezing his tail tip a little harder and the skin came off - but there was a little spot of blood at the end of his tail. He was fine other than that but should I be worried about this?

I had to remove the tip of the shed from harry a couple of sheds ago, i let him run through a damp towel, and then through my fingers but i put a little pressure from my fingers to help roll the shed off, took a few goes but it came off eventually. You really need to try as he's at risk of losing the tip of his tail
Thanks tordyjo, I know it's probably a stupid question but is there any possibility of him being harmed further if I pull on his tail tip too hard? Because I tried this and he squirmed and I don't know whether I was hurting him Thanks for helping |
