Posted - 18/02/2012 : 13:24:27 So the heat bulb from the faunarium has blown, but can't get a replacement until tomorrow! Temp is currently at 21.2c, what can I do to inject some safe heat for a few hours? |

Posted - 18/02/2012 : 22:12:45 Using a lamp over a faun is a massively inefficient way to heat and I'm sure is a nightmare to get the gradient right. If you are down the reptile shops a mat-stat and heat mat will set you back about £30 and will last you yonks. |

Posted - 18/02/2012 : 22:04:26 i personally think a heat mat would be safer than a lamp, but as long as they are both statted they should do a similar job. but the wee snakeys digest my absorbing the heat through their bellies, difficult to do with a bulb. do you have a stat on your lamp?

Posted - 18/02/2012 : 21:56:24 Is it safe to have a heat mat with a faun? I did think about it, just assumed it would be safer with a lamp until they move into a viv! |

Posted - 18/02/2012 : 20:42:42 The room is at about 20-22 degrees with the heating on, so it's been on all day, it's on all night anyway so that's why the lamp being used. It's not in the faun, it's above about a quarter of it! I have had a towel over it as suggested earlier and it's been about 23 in there all day so I'm not too worried now, be back to normal tomorrow :)
And I don't own a hair dryer so that won't happen lol!!
Thank you for advice people :D much appreciated! |

What do you do for heat overnight when the light is off?
I think its better for you to just keep the whole room they are in warm a little bit to maintain above 20oC and it should be OK overnight, I actually think it would be OK overnight to drop lower but if you can keep it warm you may as well do that. |

Posted - 18/02/2012 : 14:06:46 They were fed yesterday afternoon that's what I'm worried about, I've put a small hand warmer in for now (it is wrapped up in a sock) and they have been positioned over Rufus' tank, they are lying in the cool end anyway so I'm just not sure! |

Posted - 18/02/2012 : 13:55:05 I wouldn't worry too much as long as the snake hasnt been fed in the last 48 hours and your house isn't especially cold. Just make sure you dont feed while it has no heat |
