Hi everyone can anyone tell me where the best place for the sensor (thermostat) in the viv is do I just put it in the chippings or does it actually have to be touching the heat mat? the box says just in the chippings but seeing as the reptile shop gave us bad advice I don't trust it.
Thanx

Don't worry, they will be fine, you are not going to upset them just by fiddling around with stuff - come the end of the week you'll be going in and getting them out for a cuddle!!

We have moved the hides and our snow is moving around but our ultramel is wrapped around himself not moving so worried I will scare him to death if I try moving him

just move the hides and then move them over, poop the probes on and move the hides back, try and rest one of the hides on the probes. dont stick it down with anything that isnt a glue gun. x

Ok so we are setting up the thermostat but they are both down that end under hides and we need to move some of the chippings as the layer is quite thick over the heat mat what do we do? Is it ok to move hides and hope they go down to the hide at the opposite end of viv we haven't had them long enough to handle only 4 days
Thanx

i glue gun mine to the mat, it just pops off when i do a full clean. both probes should be touching the mat. x

The heat mat in a vivarium is inside, you need to have that mat never getting hotter than the required temperature so both the thermostat and thermometer need to be fixed to the mat. Either weighed down by something heavy or as I do stick them directly to the mat using hot glue or aquarium sealant. Then throw a thin layer of substrate over it and job done, snake will just move it out of the way when it wants to get warm and the mat will be held at a safe temperature.

is the heatmat outside the viv or inside?
If it is inside then it should be covered with a bit of lino tile or something...
either way the probe should be with the temp sensor (hairbands, as said above, work well) and they should be placed on the bottom of the rub (the substrate layer should be thin here) where the snake would be putting its body, or on he lino tile (if inside viv)

Hope this helps...

Nope, just where the thermometer probe is.
Andreamorey Posted - 27/03/2012 : 20:19:28
So it doesn't need to be actually touching the heat mat?
Thanx
