Posted - 31/03/2012 : 00:00:06 Ok so I'm looking for advice for how to move my snake halfway accross the country, If I'm lucky this summer I'll be able to get a contract to work in the same town that my parents live in(normally I'm away for University). unfortunately the people I would trust to leave boots with are also leaving this summer so I have very few options and I'd like to bring her with me. travel wise I'm looking at either a two hour flight (I need to call the airline and see thier animal policy) or a 24 hour train trip followed by 20 hours on a passenger ferry, where I figured I could likely just tuck boots into a small RUB and no one would ever know she was there. has anyone ever done this kind of moving with a snake? If I have to move I'd like to make this as low stress for her as I can any advice would be great |

Posted - 31/03/2012 : 01:02:06 I've used a fishing tackle box lined with polystyrene board and bubble wrap then snake in a pillow case to transport 3 of mine. OK it was only an hour bus ride but they were fine, even on a chittering November day.
Bonus with the tackle box is it has a solid snap over catch plus you can fit a padlock on some. That should keep any airline happy. I'll post a pic of mine if you need it.
Here's a link to the type I mean. The tray is removeable.

Or this one from Halfords, even cheaper. (Search for Tool Box) http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_710603_langId_-1_categoryId_255213
This one has padlock catch. Still cheap. http://www.toollineuk.com/product.php/site/froogle/sn/STA194857 |

Posted - 31/03/2012 : 00:04:40 If its not colder than about 18oC then I wouldn't worry about heating etc just stick Boots in a pillowcase, tie it, stick the case in a box and that should be sufficient to keep it stress free.
If its cold you can buy 40 hour heat packs for transporting reptiles. Google them I can only find UK sites (filtered out the others) but these are the sort of thing you are looking for. Then just use a polystyrene box to insulate from the cold.
