Hi everyone!!!
Just went to handle Ace and got welcomed by him striking for me in super grumpy fashion and shaking his tail. Was about to go for the second try when i noticed his eyes are very dull and at closer inspection looks like he's starting to go 'blue'.
Soooooooo what do i do now?
Shall l try feeding him tomorrow or leave it. Will he be forever grumpy (one grumpy man in the house is quite enough! lol)
How long does it usually take and is there anything i can do to make it easier on him?

Some snakes take longer to get used to you I have noticed. When we went and picked up my sub adult Cara, he was afraid she was going to strike, was putting on a glove, whole 9 yards and wasn't even in blue, she had her tail going and lunging. He finally got her out. 5 min later I put my hand in and she is the calmest thing ever and has been ever since! she just didn't like her old owner I guess....lol. I think the big thing is the angle of approach etc. the topic on handeling hatchlings is totally a good watch! Dont give up, others have suggested clothing with your scent in the viv. |

good point coxy, i always wash with the same soap directly before and after handling the snakes, they know that scent, if i dont, they act nuts! |

mine got a right strop on when she went into blue, and she refused her scheduled feed - she was in blue for 2 days, back to normal for 2 days then she shed, during the blue and the not blue stages she didn't want anything to do with me, I got the message loud and clear she just wanted to be left alone.
straight after she fed she ate and was happy to come out 48 hours later, all back to her "normal" fesity and friendly self 
I don't know exactly what happens to them when they go through the whole shed process but I do know they are happier left alone to get on with it - maybe they're un nerved because THEY don't know what's happening lol |

Not being funny here but i know most of you ladies use hand creams, moisturisers etc. So when he sheds and want to try handling again try to use none of these and only use unscented soap all day before handling, it could be he cant work out your smell from other aromatics. |

don't give up am sure he will come round eventually, personally if he's being that defensive whilst in blue i'd leave him be untill he clears then see how he is to handle, he still might be a bit defensive though as he still wont be able to see very well. have you tryed the sock trick to get him used to your scent? |

Dont give up hope he will calm eventually. When i got liquorice he was 9mths old and fiesty. He gave up trying to strike at me after about 3-4weeks. I sat with my hand in his faun til he got nosey and came out to check it out, havent looked back since. Keep trying it will work out. |

Theres no way i could get anywhere near him! He's a bad tempered sod at the best of times! Didnt even get near him and went to strike. Just hoping he calms down to his normal grumpy after this! Why's he such an anti social wee sod? The bloke in the shop finally admitted to me he had always been like that and had bitten him before.
Feel like l'm fighting a losing battle

As above,mine both eat when in blue. I check mine over while in blue, i talk to them as i pick them up give them a quick check and put mine down next to there water bowl. They normally have a drink and go back into hiding. |

You dont really have to do anything unless there is a bad shed, then next time use a damp hide, although you still can use a damp hide if you want too.
Some eat in blue, some dont, so up to you if you want to try.
only grumpy as he cant see properly, although Kellogs is always a sweetie!
will be blue for a few days, go clear then in bout a week will shed, make sure tail tip and eye caps are in shed
Really there is nothing to bother about, even if retained shed, its easy to deal with! |
