I bought some for Dunelm and cleaned. Although I didn't sand it or anything. Just picked George out of his viv and the odd one or to scales feel really rough?

Is this the reason why?
He shed two days ago no problem.
It feels like when you have dry skin.

Appreciate replys

You could try a garden center if your local pet shop hasn't got any, just make sure it hasnt been dyed!!

Any store that deals in retiles/frogs should have some or online.
I'm not sure if Pets @ Home sell it....they should because they do sell reptiles but that might not mean a thing!

Thanks. Where do I get the moss?
herriotfan Posted - 27/11/2012 : 21:30:53
I use a small plastic container with a hole cut in it big enough for my snake to slither in.
I half fill it with sphagnum moss, which has water added then squeezed out so it's just moist.
I put it in the warm end of the vivarium.
Sometimes the snake goes in it and sometimes it doesn't but it raises the humidity enough to loosen any retained shed. Then the action of slithering through the warm, damp towel removes any final bits of a scrappy shed.
It works for me 100%....can't do better than that!

Will give it a go after he's digested. Thanks

Have a closer look at the skin. It might be a few retained scales. If so, try a 'run through' using a damp towel.

George just laid one off in his rub. Was loads of liquid and small poops. He just done his first constrict. I'm guessing if he was hurt he wouldn't eat ?

Ok thanks both. Looks like I'm going to be spending a long time sanding. It's generally rough all over the thing

Never had any issues with the ones that I bought but there are so many different shapes, sizes and textures. Just rub your hands all over it and anything you think maybe a bit sharp/rough sand it down
Welshlamb Posted - 27/11/2012 : 19:26:02
Did you sand them all?

The one side of the wood is real smooth but the other side is like rough bark

Could be. Are there any sharp bugs? When j have hot some from there they have been sharp.
