I always loooove those pretty black shots where you basically only see the snake, so I've been experimenting with that. The pictures still aren't perfect, but I'm still happy with the way they turn out so far :)

That second one wasn't a camera setting, I used an editing program to add the text and decided to try and see what red eye reduction would do. The second pic is the result of that :p

You'll need the manual mode of your camera (if it has one). Set the ISO setting to the lowest possible, shutter speed to something low (e.g. 1/800) and your aperture value to 5.6 or even 8. Get a black surface to put your snake on (in my case, the living room table) and make sure there's nothing closeby to catch the flash besides your snake :) Then it's just a matter of trying over and over to get a decent shot ^^
