so its a few months later and the viv has come some way

this is the origiunal post for those of you who havent seen it http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=30057

so far we have made a fair few changes they are as follows

. Entire new lower 2.5 footer viv for her second snake a year old florida king (fido)

. Twin dimmer stat for both the heat lamps (ceramic)

. Two mat stats

. Two heat mats

. Upgrade the original air temp regulator system that i custom built to operate both tanks working independently

. Removed bar heater system as this was total over kill

. Removed florescent lighting as this was extremly un economic and replaced with led lighting throughout, this has given it a much nicer glow rather than a bing of bright light. along with the bonus of no humming from the balast

. Last but not least a shead load of plants barks and rocks, i have for any one intrested found that the best place for geting the planting was Dunelm mill, whilst they take some modification and work to make them the right size and look more like plants not fake flowers they are very cheap i have done two vivs out for less than £20 and when you look at the pictures you will see that they arte full not just one here and one there, i worked out that it would have cost about £80 just to do the big viv and about £20 do do the smaller.

some pictures below

Things to be done next

. Within the next few months the lower small viv will be extended into the box next to it giving double size

. Converting the box on the right at the bottom into a excersize viv ( just glass doors and a mass of toilet rolls ropes and branches )

. And to finish i want to build a water bowl struture to look like a rock pool at the left hand end of the large viv will proberly do this with some kind of resin not sure on the full spec yet but will work something out

Will post more as i go hope you all like

This is now on my wish list for when I move into my own place. It's like a dream paradise for snakes!! Really well done to you, it must have taken a lot of work :D

My oldest corn, Casper, is 12 and 5'3", although Asher is 6yrs old he's just reached 5' and will probably overtake Casper....but it's cheating a bit because we think he's cross rat snake.

I can't get mine to lay straight and still so use this - http://serpwidgets.com/main/measure I'm useless with computers and was pleased at how easy it is to use.

As far as we are aware she is just corn she is getting on a little but still really
Healthy we use a tape measure to check her length she will stretch out straight
with a little encouraging the only thing that she doesn't like is camera flash
it makes her go all stroppy and curl up in a ball like she is gong to pounce we can't
Wait to get stuck in on his viv I just need time of work
Kellog Posted - 18/05/2014 : 07:56:32
Mine are always hidden away, except at this time of year when a few of them are feeling frisky and out looking for a mate. It does mean all I have to do is lift up whichever hide they're in to get them out. No chasing them around, trying to catch them .

Just over 6' ! Is she pure corn? How are you measuring her length? That is long for a corn.

Am sure you can't wait to get started on Fido's viv alterations .

sorry i havent been on here in ages work is going mad

she is just over 6 foot now so it is hard for her to hide anywhere this is one of the reasons that i thought that she needed a big viv, shes not realy a hider any way as she is very i mean very clinngy always wanyting attention i think that she has taken after our dogs

the little on fido isnt the same he likes to hide away more but he is a boy and likes to sulk under rocks etc but even he is getting to big for his viv 3/3.5 foot so i will need to start the next stage on what i am calling super viv and extend his out side ways

maureen Posted - 01/04/2014 : 02:02:35
how are you thinking of doing the 'pool'?
we had one for 'crockadile skinks with a waterfall powered by a scren washer pump from a bucket directly under the pond, but they spashed the water about too much, be sure the area surounding the pool is totaly water proofed. looks good though ...live water....
Kellog Posted - 11/03/2014 : 08:33:50
Wow ! It would be wasted on any of mine . The only time you see them out and about is this time of year when they're in search of the opposite sex. Other than that they're hidden away.

How do you find her when she's got so many places to hide?!

She is about 5 1/2 feet now. She has got bigger since going into that viv.
Boomslang Posted - 09/02/2014 : 04:48:56
How big is the one in the large viv?
moognmo Posted - 08/02/2014 : 20:58:40
they do push up against things but all the plants are fixed down along with the log that is used as a ramp so they cant really move stuff too much

thanks to all for the nice comments

Very , very nice, the little corn snake is living in snakey heaven! Wish I could have something of this size for Sebastian, he's so active, he'd use all of it!

The heatlamp in the king snake's viv - does it not get hot on the outside ( in case he climbs it ) ? I'm looking for alternative ways of heating one of my 4 foot vivs ( not ceramic )...
moognmo Posted - 02/02/2014 : 18:28:03
thanks
we are happy with it
