...........................................

SONNY IS A GIRL!!!

'He' was probed at the vets a few years ago as male, but this week has laid a clutch of slugs!

Unfortunately, she still has one to lay, she managed to lay the others under her heat mat (which was glued down!) and I believe that was a few days ago (bad mum for not noticing, but she's in blue and is not keen on being disturbed - plus I had no reason to expect this!!). She now has a nest box so I really hope she can lay the last one on her own, don't want to have to take her to the vet.

This is gonna take some getting used to

Scaly, out x

I don't think so, she has no known hets, don't want a bunch of normal babies I can't sell

Sounds good, maybe she could have REAL eggs next year, with Sheldon :-)

She took a feed on Sunday, so my worries are disappearings fast :)

Sorry, I forgot to update you!
The first shot of oxytocin didn't work so we had to go back.
She had it deflated and another oxytocin and was told to bathe her when we got back and she pooped it out haha. She seems ok, still resting though but quite bright in herself.

D'ough...sorry, l meant for Sonny! l was just thinking about the eggs about to hatch, so l put Maggie instead of Sonny.... how is Sonny doing, any news?
ScalySituation Posted - 31/05/2017 : 18:35:22
UPDATE: She's had an injection of oxytocin as well as fluids, this should work in the next 12-24 hours but if not, we're going back tomorrow so they can deflate the egg to get it out.

Sonny's got an appointment at 5:15 today.
Maggie's doing fine, putting weight on like no-ones business haha

Next week! Don't forget to take lots of pictures and videos, and post them here! :-)

Fingers crossed for Maggie, let us know how she's doing...

Still nothing, going to contact the vets now.

I'm keeping one of the babies from Maggie's clutch, no chance of mum letting me have another haha.
The eggs are looking fantastic. Due next week!

P.p.p.s ( you can tell I'm home and bored today, lol, ;-) ) Sonny must be an excellent mum, managing to unglue the heat mat, to find a really warm and safe place for her eggs :-).

How are Maggie's eggs doing?
Razee Posted - 31/05/2017 : 08:19:59
P.p.s. Just remembered, a lady l knew has a son that's left home, and left his female corn snake with his parents. ( He doesn't want the snake sold or rehomed, saying he wants her, but his parents who know nothing about snakes have now been stuck with her for a long time :-/. ) She lays 2 batches of slugs every year, and it takes her ages to pass all of them, they just keep coming over a period of time. I did tell the lady how to make a moist hide for the snakey, but she still keeps leaving the odd egg all around the Viv. Just thought it might help you, to know that slug eggs sometimes take longer to be laid...

Oh my, must have been a shock :-/. That makes me think she must have been probed very roughly, if they managed to push the probe deep enough to say she was a "he".... hope she's ok and lays the egg by herself. If not, vets are your best bet, l guess. I've read that a bath ( Luke warm 28-29c )sometimes helps them to lay an egg, or l think Kathy Love's book said they'd feed the female, then when she poops, the egg comes out with the poop...not sure if l'd risk that one, though.

P.S.
Just in case you are planning to get another snake :-) ( you never know ;-). )- when I it comes to sexing corn snakes, it is actually pretty easy with adults - the tail shape is different, if looked at from underneath. In males, it narrows at the vent, then runs the same thickness for a couple of inches. Females tails are more V shaped. You'll see the difference easily if you put male and female next to each other, but they have to be adults, it doesn't show in hatchlings, unfortunately.

Hope everything will be ok with her

She still hasn't managed to lay the last one, looking into taking her to the vets now
