1. Hatchlings are generally better, because they'll get used and tame with you throughout it's life. 2. 15-20 years, if in good care. 3. 24 x 12 should be fine. An Adult corn (Average 5ft) Should be in a 3 x 2 x 2. Good width, nice height and good floorspace. |

A 5ft corn is very easy to handle by yourself, they dont look 5ft when they are in your hand |

i got my first two as adults, both about 3 years old, i found hatchlings too fast and too delicate to really enjoy handling. I got them from a reputable petshop and both were already tame when i got them. when they're older you get a better sense of their personality - Spruce is the most chilled out corn on the planet but Birch is more active in your hands and inquisitive - and a better idea of what colour they're going to be as adults.
I'd probably recommend something in the middle - a yearling or sub-adult (less than 3 years old) which should suit your current set-up just fine and it should still last you a year or so before needing a bigger upgrade |

my 5 ft+ boa is quite happy to curl up round you but the corns are generally more active, wanting to explore, go up your sleeve, round the computer desk........
think it comes down to personality again |

my 3 year old dont wanna sit still when u get him out he likes to go round my neck down my arm and back up again. Were as my hatchlings Chyna and Apophis dont sit still either but are a lot quicker than my 3 year old like gingerpony said i prefer older corns to cos i find i enjoy holding them better cos they dont seem in a rush all the time, but i still handle my babys. |

similar to this
you can get them in different sizes and with the appropriate stuff inside they're fine for baby cornsnakes (obviously you'd have to remove the fish that's in the pic those plastic vivs have a multitude of uses!) |

yea if u get a baby they get to now u and they will slow down with age and u get the joy of watching them get bigger too which is wicked i love it every time my babys shed they see to get a lot bigger after each shed. Apophis was about 8 inches long when i first got him now he is over 18 inches so he has grown a lot very quickly and has slowed down a lot from when i first got him not as quick and he is only 4 mnths old but i handle him as much as poss.

i'd probably go for one 12"-15" long and about 8"-10" wide..... ish - not too sure of the standard dimensions on those, Wilkinsons do a good cheap faunarium suitable for hatchlings, I think Kaz only paid a fiver for hers! then you needs a heatmat, thermostat, 2 hides, a water bowl and substrate.................. |

with your heatmat running on a thermostat then it would only reach 30c so there should be no worrys for the plastic melting |
lost track of the day's now, but I'm getting my amel stripe corn on the 2nd of August!!! |
