Yes that cheeky little Zak who knocked up my Anery appears to have got his wicked way with my Amel Ginge too.
She's looking very porkie so i took her up to my local rep shop today who confirmed she's gravid. This is not good news, shes almost 2 but really tiny (112g at begining of April). Zak was were seperated from the girls when the anery laid her suprise clutch to it has to have 'happened' a month ago at least. Gotta get busy tonight and put a laying box in and will be putting together a new incubator set up tomorrow (last lot of eggs didn't make it) so any sticky / how too guids greatfully recieved.
Just to top it all off, there is a possibility my snow has also been geeting friendly with lil Zak ( i know, you bring um up as good kids then they hit puberty and go off the rails putting it about like nobodies business, he's sooo grounded now) She's was very healthy 357g at the last weigh in so not so concerened about her.
Looks like i could be getting new additions after all. |

Right, advice on bored this is what i've cobled together after a trip to the fish shop and Rep shop (where i bumped in to Lee and got some lovely new branches for my vivs, cheers mate ) So what do you think?

The white lead is the stat sensor, the thin black one a digi thermometer and the other 2 black cables are 2 small heat mats (both running through the stat). It's damp play sand in the bottom, a bottle of water to spray with and the sandwich bag is full of spaggy moss ready to put on top of the eggs when they arrive. Oh and the Hydrometer in on the vermiculite is that all right??
I know i'm being a pain but i really really want to get it right this time.
(and Yes i have put the lid on the poly box before any one starts being a smarty pants) |

I've never incubated snake eggs so know very little but - I wouldn't use the spray bottle, spraying the eggs could possibly be fatal. If your insulation medium needs moistening then pour water of the correct temperature round the edges well away from the eggs and let the water soak through the vermiculite.
Also, what is the sand for? Is it really necessary?
Everything else looks pretty much how I'd set up a home made incubator.

Looks just like the one I've got mine in and they're doing well.
The wet sand may not be necessary, but I'm convinced that it keeps the humidity up as the water evaporates from it. It worked a treat with my lot.
Budaholic's right about spraying the eggs - I spray the moss and the sand, and add a bit, but not a lot to the vermiculate. |

Cheers guys, i'm guessing the overall conclution is it should do the job.
The wet sand is just there for humidity and i wasn't intending on spreying directly on to the eggs anyway.
One more question, had the incubator running for 24 hours, temp still needs to go up abit so i'm fiddling with the stat and the humidity is currentlt staying around 75%, erm.... what should it be? |

I think it should be 90-95% but I'm not certain. |

Well given it all a good spraying hopefully that should do the trick. |

Came down this morning to a very small but perfectly formed 6 eggs from Ginge, She even managed to lay them in her lay box. All of them are now nicely tucked up in the incubator under a snuggly blanket of moss.
She looks really good to be honest not too skinny and i can see any more in her, gonna wait till tonight to feed her anyway.
Really excited now. |
