definitely on the floor for snakes

not too much substrate over the top or it will insulate the heat from the snake, and therm/stat probe on top of the subtrate above the mat

cornsnakes, ratsnakes, bullsnakes, boas and day geckos

ok thanks was just a bit concerned because with the scorp and t's i have owned it was always on the back but saying that with all my reptiles it's underneath!

i put mine underneath the tank so the snake cant come into contact with the mat. think thats how its meant to be, correct me if im wrong

i find putting substrate over the top of the heat mat pointless,when i used to use a heat mat, my corn snake used to just remove it all when he used to coil up on the heat mat. no matter how much substrate i used , the mat would be bare and exposed within hours

i put a floor tile over my heat mats in my wooden vivs they hold the heat at the desired level and sto the snake sitting on them directly.
