we have just bought noodles a new 3ft viv, which is in our kitchen as oppose to the living room where his old one was, due to lack of space. problem is our kitchen can get quite cold as its l'shaped leading into a conservatory. the heat mat is running at the right temp but would you recommend a heat lamp just to boost the general temp in the viv.

so long as the temps are correct in the viv I wouldn't worry about topping up with a heat lamp.

just a bit worried cos the room temp can drop to as little as around 12c at night when the central heating isn't on. yes cold i know especially if you have to make a trip to the kitchen in the middle of the night.

As long as your mat is kicking up a nice 27-29 degrees C then Noodles will have somewhere to go to warm up, if it dropped very cold it will stay just by the mat. In the wild they have to deal with cold nights without a mat so Noodles will be just fine.

hopefully snake knows to stay in the warm end at night then, but 12c is a bit cold so when the colder nights set in keep an eye on where it is spending the night if possible. If it seems to prefer the cooler end, you can always add in another mat for the winter (statted to about 20-23)

Exactly what I had to do, Jaffa's set up wasn't right when we got him, he stayed in the cold end which went down to 16c some days. Now they have a mat in the cold end set to 22c and one in the warm at 29c.
Much happier and hasn't gone off his food like he did this time last year. God luck
