Can I please have your opinions on the length of time that you can store frozen rats and mice in a domestic freezer, as I am thinking of placing an order online, so much cheaper than my local pet shop. Thanks

a33272 so would you be comfortable keeping them in a freezer for say 8 - 12 months?

I have no idea personally, I've researched and asked many good people and generally it was 3 months normal freeze, 6 months deep freeze and vacummed sealed and deep frozen 1 year. I am also tempted to do the same but I know how horrid meat is when it's got freezer burn on it.. all horrid and tough! Snake may not mind if you have one that regurges every so often probably not best XD

I have been looking up about freezer burn and apparently it is worse if you have a modern frost free freezer which I don't. And you need to wrap each individual rat/mouse in plastic wrap really tightly then place them in a a zipped freezer bag and squeeze as much air out as possible as you seal it. So I think it may well be worth me buying bulk and giving it ago. My order would be less than half price online compared to the shop price.

Freezer manufacturers always say to only keep meat frozen for 6 months tops so I would tend to stick to that for my meat i'm guessing animal meat would be the same. Oh and I only buy 5 mice at a time so that every 5 weeks I get a perfect excuse to go to the shop and admire the reptiles.

I think that's a good way to go about it :) old sausages and chicken nuggets are not very nice to eat XD snakes probably ain't as fussy, heard of some guy having some snake food that was 3 years old. It was a massive freezer though.
