Hi all
I always wanted a snake as a kid and was never allowed as my mum would never allow frozen mice to be kept in the freezer.
Having recently got married the wife agreed and actually bought me a 5 week old Amel hatchling and a small faunarium set up as a wedding present. Decided on a dual sex name of Sydney (not very original i know)
Today was the first feed at home, Sydney didn't strike like I expected though, and more just picked it up and swallowed the pinkie.
I didn’t realize that you was supposed to leave them a week before handling so have had it out everyday for 10-15 mins as want to make sure it grows up a friendly snake, hopefully i have done no harm.
Am really looking forward to watching Sydney grow, currently 12.5" long and 9 grams.
Have become slightly obsessed now though and spending every spare minute reading through sites and this forum.
Everyone seems so helpful, I can see Sydney being one of a few as the years go on.

Aha, I know how you feel about them being addicting - got my first 2 months ago and have a long list of snakes that I want (a)
As long as the snake is calm and doesn't seem overly stressed by handling I'm sure that he/her should be fine? With mine it was VERY obvious she didn't want to be handled and needed her settling period - so I think you be able to tell somewhat... |

| Hi. I didn't know about the settling in either and I handled mine every day for a short time when I first got him. He only came from round the corner from me so he didn't have a long stressful jorney and it seemed that he wanted to come out. I never actually physicaly get my snake out, i just open the door and wait, if he wants to come out he does and if he isn't interested he wont. I have a happy healthy snake that loves to be handled so I don't think that I did any harm |

Hi Welcome to the forum. What a super wedding pressie! Don't worry too much about the wee mistake of handling after food this time, just remember to allow 48 hours in future. It's to give the meal time to digest properly and help avoid a regurge which isn't good for the snake. We all make mistakes but the important thing is to learn from them. I have a feeling one snake will not be enough for you........ |

Looks good. I have edited to make them side by side to stay within the constraints of sig sizes.

Looks good. In my opinion it's hard to overcrowd a faun or a viv. |
