Anyone know much about the technical side of computers?

Thing is I had a Seagate 500gb external hard drive, that now doesn't fire up. The data's safe and I have just the hard drive next to me,

Is there any way I can save my 1200ish precious photos and other work?

Thanks!

What kind of external, desktop kind or the small portable ones? Any lights? sounds? If its a desktop then try replacing the power cable, or try the power cable on a different object and see if it powers it.

If it's a portable....new computer components have naff soldering, and that is probably what is gone in your hardrive, all melted and stuff, this is what happened to mine :( If you have a charger that fits the portable one, something like a PSP one, then that puts enough though the good soldering for it to work.. but I wouldn't say this is a reliable way :(

A very special super, duper thanks for K :3

It's an external hard drive, yep it's portable.

The light did light up and it buzzed and beeped. I've had it sussed the motors knackered.. So even if I tried to use a different power source it couldn't fire up anyway..
