Hi there i am Huffy86's partner, we got Pablo on friday and i think he is settling in nicely. He has actually started to use his hide now instead of burrowing. One thing i need to ask is about handling... Im finding it a little nerve racking with the inital putting my hand in and getting him out, as he's a bit nervous and so am i lol. Any one have any tips? x |

ahhh 2 months old (did my own research lol) there's 2 ways to go IMO, just stick your hand in and get him or lift the tub lid and let him come to you
or i have had to resort to option 3 with some particularly feisty homebred hatchies - a tiny hook about 12" long, lift them up then place them in your hands, then they usually calm down - these really were nasty little b*****s!!! |

Yes he is very fast and wrigglely and I think im a bit jumpy (silly thing is, i love snakes and i have handled a few before we got pab's, but i have always had them handed to me)...yes he is only teeny bless him, huffy has been putting his hand in to get him used to his smell....I cant bring myself to do it, but yet i know he's nice as i held him in the shop! |

if he's generally calm as you go to approach him try to keep your hand quite low and scoop him up rather than have your hand hovering over him which he'll see as quite threatening
i'd also give him a full week to settle in then he should be calmer when you do handle him |

Hi there. I am only just learning the ways of hatchlings too lol. All of my other snakes are yearlings or older.. so the 2 hatchies I have are a whole new experience for me.
I have just been opening the lid and scooping them up. MacBeth takes a couple of seconds but then settles down fine for handling.
Babe on the other hand... she is very very flighty and will take a few minutes to get her settled down enough for handling... but any sudden movements or noises etc and she freaks and goes back to square 1. All flighty and squirmy lol.
Good luck with your hatchling. |

Yes, i have read about leaving him to settle in, but the breeder told us as he is not wild he would be fine. I think giving him and me sometime to adjust sounds like a better plan hehe...One exciting thing is that tomorrow its his dinner time, so we are looking forward to that. |

Hiya, welcome to you too. Giving him time to settle in should make the experience alot less stressful for both of you. It will give both you and your OH time to get him used to your smells a bit before you start trying to get him out. You could always do the glove/sock trick too. If you and your OH do it then he could get used to having both of your smells around him |

giving him time to adjust will benefit him in the long-run and make it easier for you too. just as an example: i recently rehomed and adult male corn, a tame family pet and i handled him when he arrived with no problems whatsoever. the morning after he arrived i put my hand in the viv to reposition the thermostat probe and he was very aggressive - tail-rattling, hissing, and struck at me 4 times. a week later, after a week to de-stress, i put mu hand in to pick him up and he was a pussycat they do get stressed, i'm sure Pabs will appreciate having that time to settle in |
