I have a fish tank measuring 90cms x 30cms x 40cms
.
My Daughter wants a cornsnake and I have said yes ,neither of us have any previous reptile experience .
We dont have a snake at the moment but we have a fish tank intended for a snake which will arrive in a couple of weeks .
From what I have read a tank of this size may well be too big for a hatchling ( little baby snake ) If this is the case Im looking to exchange this tank for any bit of kit that I will need for our new snake when it arrives .Willing to make up any cash differences .
If a tank of this size is actually ok for a small snake could an experienced snake owner please give me some advice .
Thankyou for reading this .
I am located in sunbury .
Also if anybody in middlesex have any snakes available

heya and welcome

which dimensions are the width and depth of the tank? chances are it will be too big for a hatchie but part could be sectioned off until it grows....?

Sounds like a standard 3ft fishy tank. That will be to big for a hatchie (baby corn) unfortunately.
A small or medium faun will be more suitable for a hatchie, you can usually pick them up for a few quid on most online reptile supply shops, or your local reptile shop.
If you have a look at the 101 sticky, that'll give you and idea of the essentials and the luxury as well.

Hi and welcome.
The tanks definitely too big for a hatchie. If you have the rom to store it though its worth hanging onto for when its bigger.
Meanwhile,if the snakes only little the clip seal type butty boxes work great as homes for hatchies, they are cheap too. All you need to do is make some air holes.

Hi an welcome.

If I may make a suggestion - I would ,from personal experience, get a adult corn - in which case that size fish tank would be suitable. The reason being is adult corns should have already been handled and brought up correctly, be friendly, have their set personalities and any problems already identified.

My partner got a 2-3 year old snake first and had no problems (had him 5 years now). I got a young snake and found myself being really uncertain and nervous around her - which is the last thing you want because its so key to be confident with young snakes so they don't get any bad habits. Plus babies are naturally quite fast and flighty and more likely to bite etc. I'm not saying you won't raise one well! I just wish someone told me this (now my young one is perfectly healthy and happy) but I learnt the hard way.

I have 4 now, 3 adults 1 yearling and the yearling is the most tricky, I'm still learning!

Hope that helps
