hi all
i have a heat mat on a mat stat and a sun glo lamp, the guy at the shop said to have the lamp on during the day and the mat at night, is this right? the temp is at about 80f with the lamp on. does it need to be on all day? or just a few hours? if so how many? i am getting some led lights for viewing just concerned the sun glo maybe to much for the snake.
any comments greatly recived

Hi
Why the lamp AND a heat mat? Most people only have the heat mat. I would do away with heat lamp and have just the mat. And then just pop the LED lights on for viewing (I have mine on at night when wathing telly)x

If you set it to about 29oC it should be fine, but see how your snake is. If your snake starts to spend all the time in the cool end, then turn the stat down a degree. And yes, this will be ok all the time

Ditch the sun-glo and fit the LED lights. There is a good set available from IKEA. I have 3 set ups with them.

The Stat should be set to a range between 21C to 30C (max). Use a digital thermometer attached to the stat sensor probe and laid on top & middle of the heat mat panel to monitor the temps. Weigh it down with a hide or other furniture to keep it from being dislodged. You can leave it switched on permanently.

Have a look at the Care Sheet for general information and also the 'sticky' posts in the relevant forums. Anything else, just ask.

my set up is straight forward

heat mat covers one third of floor space, put all the way to left or right side, thin layer of substrate on it (i use it sparingly), thermostat probe and digital thermometre probe tied together in the middle hides on top and then nice thick and deep aspen on the cool side

for lighting i use GU10 led bulbs, and others use led strips as these giver pretty much almost no heat

you can even by day/night thermostats for heat mats to allow for a night time drop. Saves a lot on electricity too.
