I have has Houdini for 5 weeks and the shop told me he was 4 weeks old. He has been quite timid but getting used to me handling while the kids stand off but he does slither over their hands.
On the advice of the shop i gave him 2 pinkies for he feed because as soon as he had swallowed the first it cannot be seen in his body.
He took 2 small pinkies of Friday last week but ever since he hasnt been himself, by this i mean:
1. Got him out Monday night and he has lost loads of colour(possibly his first shed with me)
2. Hasnt had a poo all week.
3. Doesnt move round his Viv like normal in the eves just stays in the cool end in a hide.

He is still happy to come out and be handled, tongue is working well and moves round my hands just as before.

As Friday (tomorrow) is his usual feeding day do i still feed him or wait till i get a nice poo from him?
Does the shed colour change come on that quick?
Or am i just daft and nothing to worry about...
Yes i know its my first snake as you can tell, im just a concerned father..lol

Thanks in advance

Sean

Hi there,

as Gmac says, characteristics of shedding.

During shedding from blue eyes to completely off, I avoid feeding my snakes, and is a personal preference which others practice and then others feed during shed.

If no feeding issues or regurge then most will say feed anyway.

You'll find his eyes going dull and blue, skin going very dull. After this and up to about 7 days his eyes become clear and some brightness will return to the colour

Approx 7 days on he will shed his skin and be beautiful and colourful. WHole process can take up to 2 weeks, sometimes less and sometimes more.

Just check the shed to see it's all there especially the eye caps, and the tip of the tail.

Sometimes mine will poo in his shed, or poo afer his shed or during, so I wouldnt worry about this

I avoid handling mine during shedding, and so do others, but it is down to yourself, but they can get quite flighty and may hiss and strike, but that's because their vision is impaired when in blue.

If when feeding the one pinky isn't leaving a bump or bulge, then up it to 2 pinkies every 5 - 7 days, and again if this isnt leaving much of a bump then its onto fuzzies. the first one is daunting but dont worry, and one fuzzy should be every 6-7 days.

Also make sure his temps are correct in his viv and avoid handling for the first week of him in his home, and avoid handling 48- 72 hours after feeding

Hope that helps

Hi
I carried on handling and offered his feed, which he took straight away. That was Friday.
Left him alone over the weekend as usual after a feed, didnt really see him much for 2 days.
This morning came down and found he had completed his shed and all had come off in one piece.
Had him out this evening and as usual he is happy to explore, eyes, tail etc all good and he is looking very shiny...

I have my beutifull, colourfull snake back.
Daughters told all their friends at school today so shed is going in tomorrow with a Corn Snake book for show and tell... Girls are very excited.
Thanks to all

How great is that complete result, my son loves his snake and every new thing that happens gets retold in school, along with an appropriate ammount of exageration lol
