yes the 1st pic is fine i have something very simular i personally think they are better than repticave style hides as theres more places to hide and climb and they look good too :)

Use blocks of wood, broom handle or branches instead of the milk bottles as supports. If it's for a smaller snake just place a suitable branch as a ramp to let it crawl up.
If you are not very good at making things, use a cheap note/ pin board. These are usually made of cork or hardboard. Add some aspen and watch your snake lounge in style.
