My 6 month old corn snake Neiko is scared of me, if he comes out of his hide and is roaming his tank and he sees me move, he goes straight back into his hide. When holding him afew days after getting him he bit me,it didn't hurt, just shocked me, but now I'm wary. The breeder said he's never bitten him once. What should I do? |

| just continue with 5 minute daily handles. he will soon calm down, as for exploring. one of mine isnt bothered by us, the other however i rarley see. x |

| Same advice as georgina, keep trying for 5 mins a day but do not handle for 48 hours after a feed. Suki bit me lots of times at first but now she rarely does it and Sid has never even attempted to bite me, so every snake will be different you just have to keep trying :) |

| Well he's my first ever snake, so I'm not used to it. My daughter's less wary than me, she's only 9yrs old but she lets him go up her sleeves and everything. He also doesn't wrap around his pinkie's at feeding time, he just opens his mouth slowly and eats it in a cpl of minutes, is that normal? |

| You could also try carrying round a clean sock of bit of cloth for a day, then put inside the viv so he can used to your scent |

| yup its normal, it tends to come with age. mine tend to constrict if i really wiggle the mouse. x |

Suki was my first to, so though I was doing something wrong but read up a lot on here and saw that I wasn't so just kept trying. If she does strike at you, you have to keep on picking her up as she will think that she is 'winning' if you back off and leave her. Not coiling is normal, some don't do it at all and some start doing it after a while so don't worry about it.
EDIT: sorry, I put 'she' when you have said it is a he. |

| its also a good idea after getting a new snake to give it 7 days at least without handling to allow them to settle in getting used to all the new smells and noises and vibrations. May be worth doing the sock trick and leaving him for the 7 days without handling and feeding just going in for water change and spot cleaning |

| Ok thanks alot for the replies, Much apreciated. He's lovely, I'll have to get some pics up. He's amel and quite small, I thought he'd be bigger, but he eats well, breeder said to feed him a pinkie twice a week, he seems to have no problems with anything. just a bit jumpy when touched and skittish at times. |

| you probably want to feed 1 pinky every 5 days rather than twice weekly, being skittish is normal for hatchies and as for biting (or tagging) as its also called its their only form of defence from being eaten. Am sure you're doing just fine, and your in the right place for advice |

| Yes I've read feed once not twice, then some say feed twice with him being young, him being my first I'm not sure what to do. I've been feeding him on saturday or sunday, then again on wednesday or thursday as per breeder instructions.I also read that the younger snakes are more nippy than older more secure snakes due to fear of being a snack! I feed him in a seperate tank than the one he lives in, he has aspen in his tank which he enjoys sliding through. The feeding tank is just an empty plastic tank though so no worries with impaction. I see in Tordyjo's pics that you have two snakes of different sizes in together there, I didn't think that was posible. |

| i would feed once every 5 days, and maybe once every 5 feeds feed him on the seventh day, to keep him interested in food. the latter part of my advice is personal choice. but defo every 5 days. x |

I have 3 snakes altogether and they are all housed sepearately. The one in the picture where you see 2, the bigger is actually a felt snake that was made for me by a member on here, it was made from pictures of harry the snake it is with. I'm not an advocate for co-habiting (but thats a seperate debate)

| I got a new boy a month ago hes now 10mths and acted exactly the same except for the bite(suck) he is slowly settling but can still be a "scaredy cat" it just takes time so keep at it he will calm down eventually. |
