My 3 yr old corn (approx 3 ft long) is used to eating adult mice.
She can swallow one within 10 minutes.

The pet-shop ran out of adult mice & I bought a young rat that is still considerably bigger than an adult mouse...that is, the size of the rat's head is similar in dimension to that of an adult mouse however the rat's body is obviously much bigger.

I'm in two minds whether it will be too big to feed.

I don't know whether the snake will acknowledge it's too big & give up trying to swallow it OR will the snake just persist & possibly injure herself in the process?

I'll hold off feeding until I get more feedback.

hi, adult snakes can stick with large mice, they don't need to go any bigger as they are not growing like a jeuvy. I believe once you get a corn onto rats it can be difficult to get them back onto mice.

I don't think a snake would intentially swallow something that was too big for them it would either refuse or spit it back out.

Your snake would come to no harm for not having a feed for a few days until your shop gets the large mice back in stock. However the choice is yours.

I have a snake that is almost 2 yrs but is far more than 3ft long and i know she wouldn't be able to manage a rat the size you're describing, she's currently on medium mice.
